Newtown Creek Cruise Report
by Andy & Sue Astley - Jaycee
Fourteen boats and more than 30 people enjoyed a weekend of sailing, canoeing, exploring and socialising in this idyllic nature reserve over this weekend (7/8th June).
The weather over the weekend was ideal - hot and breezy. Jan & Richard in Elke Fair couldn't wait and left Ashlett midday Friday. They were followed by Trevor & Maggie in Kouba and Steve & Jude in Ripping Yarns arriving at Newtown at 0330 Saturday morning. The rest of the fleet left Ashlett at about 1300 on Saturday. The sail to Newtown was very pleasant, a strong hot sun and light northerly winds made it a pleasurable passage. Most of the fleet had arrived and anchored by 1700.
Everyone took to their dinghys and attacked the beach ...
... where we had a brilliant communal BBQ.
After several beverages and a spectacular sunset we retired to Kouba for a night cap.
Sunday dawned bright and sunny, we started with a stroll in the nature reserve before brunch and the sail back to Ashlett.

The sail back was very much like Saturday - hot and sunny but the wind was light and northerly which resulted in relying on power to get back to Ashlett before the tide rushed out again.This weekend is the best this year so far the weather was ideal and FOURTEEN club Boats!!! A really brilliant time was had by all.
Many thanks to all who attended and made this a memorable weekend;
Binah, Ripping Yarns, Misty, Dewimar, Elke Fair, Gifthorse, Rosina B, Kouba, Rascal, S'capade, Swan Song, Ivory Gull, Rose and Jaycee.
